Implants

Dental Cleaning Guide

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are the new standard for replacing missing teeth in dentistry. They are titanium screws that act like anchored teeth in the jaw that function and look like natural teeth. Dental implants also help preserve facial structure, preventing  bone determination which occurs when teeth are missing.

What is the procedure for dental implants?

Eastman Dental makes a comprehensive plan for your full dental treatment. The treatment starts with a dental / radiographic examination and health history to assess specific needs, implant location and number of implants, the bone in that region, overall health and suitability for the procedure. After the assessment and treatment planning, the implants can be placed either by a dentist at the office or by an oral surgeon (additional cost) if your bone is low quality.

The placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures. First, implants are placed within your jawbone. The bone osseointegrates (bonds) with the titanium over a three month period, allowing the creation of a strong foundation for your new teeth. You will wear a temporary crown, bridge or denture as the bone heals.

The second phase begins after the implant has bonded to the jawbone. The team at Eastman Dental will uncover the implants and attach a small healing collar, take an impression, make the final restoration and connect the posts or attachments to the implants. The replacement teeth are then made over the posts or attachments and are screwed into or glued onto the implant abutment. The entire procedure usually takes six to eight months from start to finish, without any disruption to daily life.

Does the procedure hurt?

Not at all. Most implants are placed under local anaesthetic. There is the option for sedation medication to help you relax during the procedure.

How long will dental implants last?

Implants have a 90-95% success rate. An implant integrates into the jaw bone and will lasts a lifetime with proper cleaning and maintenance.

How much do implants cost?

We follow the MDA fee guide and strive to keep the cost down. Depending on your insurance, 50-80% of implants are covered. You may require bone graft (additional cost) if your bone is not of high quality or you have lost too much.
